Man Wounds Mother, Kills 2 Others at Point Loma Home

A man was in custody today for allegedly shooting his mother and killing two other people in Point Loma.   The gunfire in the 3600 of Zola Street, near Chatsworth Boulevard and not far from Point Loma High School, erupted at about 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Officers from the department's Western Division responded to the scene and found a woman in her 60s and a man in his 30s suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene, but were not immediately identified.

A third victim, a woman in her 80s, walked out to the street as officers arrived and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.   A 60-year-old man at the front of the house was taken into custody.

Officers said they located what appeared to be a shotgun near the front of the house.  Police said the shooting was family-related and the suspect is the son of the surviving victim. It is believed they both live at the residence.
