Is Padres History Repeating Itself?

Football may be called the most popular sport in America but there is something that makes baseball still America’s favorite pastime.

And what happened Tuesday night in Los Angeles was a terrific example of that.

Because what happened rarely ever happens. And even when it has it doesn’t happen how it happened and when it happened at Dodger Stadium.

It was one of those so very rare things that happen in baseball that Padre fans will remember forever.

Pulling off a triple play to end and win the game and send them to the postseason playoffs.

No one saw it coming except for Padres play by play announcer Jesse Agler who just moments before the triple play happened, told his radio audience, what was needed was a triple play but suggested that it could probably not happen.

But then it did. You have to go way back to 1984 to find a moment like this one for the Padres when they came home from Chicago having been beaten soundly by the Cubs and the only way they could make it to the World Series would be to pull off a different kind of triple and win all of the next three games and they did.

That was 40 years ago. History may be repeating itself.
