The issue of illegal immigration certainly was a big one during the presidential election campaign, probably a decisive one. Exit polling showed that it was a major concern among most Americans.
But there is and always has been disagreement over how best to improve the situation. Many over years and decades have been pushing for a comprehensive immigration plan, one that makes the border more secure and one that also makes the legal immigration system fair and work better and more quickly.
So now the focus is on one of the incoming Trump 2.0 administration’s number one priorities, the border.
And there are concerns from all sides on how exactly any plan for a mass deportation of undocumented migrants, possibly millions of them, would work.
What is said on the campaign trail rarely includes details. But now a lot of people are asking about details. How it would work. What it would mean. What would it cost and what would the impact be on business and the economy?
Of course, the devil is always in the details as they say and some will like them and some will not.
And with unknowns often leading to fears, these questions all need to be known and answered.
That’s what we plan to do here on the radio with ongoing reports and discussions of this most important issue of immigration that affects everyone in San Diego in one way or another.
