What to Avoid on Thanksgiving This Year

There’s a lot of advice for Thanksgiving travelers this week with a record number of people flying or driving to spend time with family young and old.

But what about some advice about handling what seems to be a worry for a lot of people on social media who are talking about it.  How to avoid talking politics on Thanksgiving with family members or friends who have different political views.

A new survey is out that suggests that a majority of Americans plan to avoid talking politics so they can avoid family stress at get-togethers.

The survey polled 2,000 people across all 50 states. Equal amounts of men and women and adults from 25 to 65 years of age.

The results? Nearly two-thirds of those polled said they are worried about election-related stress with nearly a quarter of those surveyed saying they are considering skipping Thanksgiving altogether.

A report out last week offered some ways to avoid talking politics and making a day of thanks not a day of stress.

The report encourages families to set the rules ahead of time that strictly enforce a “no politics” rule with Thanksgiving guests.

They also say to make sure the news is not playing on TVs during the gathering and encourage families and friends to bring board games or puzzles.

Experts suggest focusing on what Thanksgiving is all about; Being thankful for the blessings you have, and this year, one of those blessings would be not talking politics.
