51,000 Power Shutoffs in SD County; Fire in L-A County Forces Evacuations

Portions of I-8 were closed to high-profile vehicles in East County Tuesday morning after strong winds forced several tractor-trailers to overturn.

Caltrans San Diego posted on X at 8:19 a.m., saying that due to a wind advisory from Alpine to Imperial Highway, high-profile vehicles were being diverted off of I-8 east at Willows Road. They reopened the freeway to high profile vehicles Tuesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol in El Cajon, troopers responded to multiple crashes. The closure created a back-up that stretched for more than a mile. CHP troopers told truck drivers they may have to wait until Wednesday to get back on the road.s involving semi-trucks in that area.

Malibu Wildfire
in L-A County, a wildfire that broke out Monday night in Malibu had burned more than 2,700 acres as of Tuesday and there were reports of some structures damaged or destroyed.

The fire forced evacuations and students at Pepperdine University were told to shelter in place in buildings at the center of the campus. School officials say the flames were kept from advancing by L-A County firefighters on land and in aircraft. Pepperdine also has a lake that is used for helicopters to gather water as part of the school's fire suppression system.
