Why 2024 Was a Very Unusual Year But 2025 Could Top It

2024 will probably go down as a very unusual year for news, because a lot of things that happened were unusual.

And it started during the first month of the year.

Back in January when a Boeing passenger jet made an emergency landing after a panel known as what we learned was a “door plug” that suddenly blew out in mid-flight. Pretty unusual.

Also in January, a rare event in San Diego when there was record rainfall one day and rare flooding that sent cards flowing down flood channels and damaged or destroyed many homes. Pretty unusual for sure.

There was an unusual number of other weather events this year. many setting or nearing records. including hurricanes, tornadoes, heat waves and heavy snow storms.

There was even a total solar eclipse across North America, not something that happens very often.

In the world of politics, this may have been the most unusual year in several decades. Two assassination attempts on Donald Trump, the decision by Joe Biden to pull out of the presidential campaign, something that hadn’t happened since LBJ in 1968. And of course Kamala Harris being the first ever presidential nominee who was a woman and black.

And then right here at the end of the year, the death of Jimmy Carter, the first U.S. president to ever live to be 100 years old.

Yes 2024 was definitely a pretty unusual year. But watch out because, in the Chinese zodiac, 2025 is the year of the snake.
