New Year's Resolutions San Diego Leaders Should Make

It’s the last day of 2024. That means’ it’s time once again this year for the New Year’s resolutions that many probably wish our local leaders should make.

Mayor Todd Gloria and the City Council should resolve to build more shelters, create more services and build more affordable housing for the homeless and finally make some progress in solving San Diego’s biggest problem.

And city planners should resolve to find more bicyclists who will use those now pretty much “bikeless” bike lanes.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors should make a resolution to fill the soon to be vacant Nora Vargas seat with someone who is an independent so he or she would force the two Democrats and the two Republicans to make their best case for that third vote to actually get things done.

The San Diego Association of Governments should resolve to gain more trust from voters before asking for another sales tax increase.

And the Metropolitan Transit System should resolve to finally build a trolley link to the downtown airport which they should have done three decades ago.

The mayor of Imperial Beach should resolve to run for President so SHE can build a wall to stop the poop from polluting the beaches and the air in the South Bay.

And those leaders in La Jolla who want to secede from the city of San Diego should resolve to forget about it.  It’s too much a part of what San Diego is; the ocean, the beaches, and the views. And besides the sea lions at Chldren’s Pool probably wouldn’t like it.
