How to Ensure You Have Home Insurance

With the brush fires we have had the last couple of days and more Santa Ana winds still expected here in San Diego County, there are a lot of homeowners worried about their home insurance.

Even before the big fires in L-A, insurance companies had been cancelling or not renewing policies all across California because of the increase in the number and size of wildfires in recent years.

Here in San Diego County. About 86,000 home insurance policies were not renewed in 2021 which represents about 13 percent of the home insurance market according to the SD Union Tribune. The percentage of non-renewals the last couple of years dropped slightly.

But with our frequent droughts in Southern California not all going away, there are fears the situation is not going to be good moving forward.

And that’s why the fires in L-A have sparked more talk than ever about where we build and how we build homes in the future.

There are costs to living in California and the cost of home fire insurance is going to be especially watched as homeowners decide where they want to live.
