At least six people are dead following two crashes within 12 hours on Highway 67 on Friday.
The first crash happened just after 12:30 p.m., north of the 67 and Iron Mountain Drive intersection. When deputies arrived, they learned that a three-vehicle crash happened near the intersection, sending one of the vehicles into the ravine and sparking a small brus fire.
The San Diego Sheriff's Office issued a statement: "The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team responded and assisted with the investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Deputies collected video footage which will be used to assist with determining cause of the collision."
A second fatal crash occurred on the 67 around midnight Friday night. A small SUV caught fire after crashing near Quail Rock Rd, according to the California Highway Patrol, killing at least one person.
