City crews have begun aggressive preparations for upcoming severe weather ahead of the season's first major storm, Mayor Todd Gloria announced Monday.
The proactive push follows Governor Gavin Newsom’s statewide El Niño Emergency Declaration, a move intended to unlock critical state resources and streamline local preparedness efforts. Local teams are currently focused on mitigating potential flooding, reinforcing vulnerable coastal areas, and addressing immediate infrastructure vulnerabilities.
"We are not waiting for the storm to hit," Gloria said, emphasizing that the state emergency order allows communities to cut through bureaucratic red tape and accelerate defense measures.
