Security guard and bus driver Melissa Harloam-Garrison is suspected of giving fentanyl to students at Bright Futures Academy in Riverside.
An investigation began after Riverside police were called to Bright Futures Academy when a student went "out of control" on campus. During their investigation, officers learned that another student had overdosed on fentanyl a week prior. Staff members at the school told officers that about an employee that may be giving fentanyl to students.
It turns out that the employee, who was identified as Melissa Harloam-Garrison, lived in a cottage on campus with her husband, David Garrison. During a search of the cottage, officers discovered over 100 suspected fentanyl pills, two handguns and a variety of ammunition.
Harloam-Garrison was arrested and booked on charges of child endangerment as well as illegal drug and firearms violations, with bail set at $50,000. David Garrison was arrested and booked on charges of possession of a firearm on campus and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, with bail set at $25,000.
