Another Storm Hits San Diego With Heavy Rain

The latest storm to hit San Diego brought heavy rain Monday and record rainfall amounts as well as flooding in Mission Valley as the San Diego River levels rose above flood stage. The National Weather Service says the one day rainfall amount at Lindbergh Field of about 2 inches of rain broke the old record of 1.6 inches of rain in one day.  Vehicles were caught in flood waters and some drivers had to wade through waist-high water.

Flood warnings and advisories were issued for the entire day as the storm stalled and persisted till early Tuesday morning. Even Petco Park was flooded, (See photo above) but Padres officials say there was no damage. The team is in ArIzona for spring training.

The storm also brought 20-30 mph wind gusts from the coast to the inland valleys with stronger gusts in the mountains.  Snow was also expected in some of the higher elevations of the local mountains.

The rain caused more than 500 crashes on the freeways and local highways as drivers got caught in standing water in some of the freeway lanes and on the on-and-off ramps. CLICK HERE for Total Traffic Updates.

The National Weather Service issued an Airport Weather Warning for Lindbergh Field Monday due to wind gusts of 30 knots or greater.  There were flight delays.  An American Airlines flight to Chicago ran into so turbulence on their way, they made an unscheduled landing in Denver.
