One person is dead after a high speed chase in National City. Around 2:00 Wednesday morning officers tried to pull over a Mitsubishi on a stretch of East 16th Street. Police say the driver took off and led officers on a high speed chase before smashing into two parked cars.
The driver was trapped inside the car, and died at the scene. The force of the crash sent one of the other cars barreling over a fence. No other injuries were reported. It's not know why officers were trying to pull the driver over before the chase began.
