Son Shot and Killed by Escondido Police After His Mother Dies

Police in Escondido say an officer involved shooting this morning happened when officers were investigating the apparent natural death of an elderly woman in a home east of Valley Parkway.

Police say they were called to the home of 70-year-old Elizabeth "Betty" Seitz who lived with her son, 40-year-old Damon Seitz.  She was dead when officers arrived.  Police say at some point, her son pulled out a gun and threatened one of the officers at the home on James Street where they lived.  The officer fired three or four rounds at Damon, who was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police say they got a call shortly before 7 o'clock this morning from someone reporting that a woman had died while “unattended."
