An El Cajon family has their dog to thank after a fire broke out in their house on Minnesota Avenue early Thursday morning. A woman in the home says that she fell asleep on the couch, and her dog nudged her awake. That's when she smelled smoke and ran to get her husband. The couple and their two dogs got out safely. Fire crews are investigating, and say the fire started in the couple's home office.
