San Diego Police are investigating two similar homicides about two miles apart from each other, and within about seven hours of each other.
The first happened overnight in Mountain View. Police say a witness called 911 just before 11:00p.m. after hearing several gunshots on Ocean View Boulevard. Officers found 47-year-old James Arberry on the ground with a bullet wound to his upper body. Despite police and paramedic efforts to save him, he died at the scene.
A few hours later, just before 6:00a.m., police were called to Chollas View, near Gompers Preparatory Academy, after a janitor at the school reportedly found a body lying on the ground. 23-year-old Cherkeiary Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say the incident was not related to any school activity.
No suspects have been named, and police are still investigating both murders. They say at this point, they don't think the two are related.
