Two women, believed to be an elderly woman and her daughter, died in a fire that broke out early Tuesday morning in a Mission Hills home. The fire was first reported shortly after 5 a.m. at a home in the 1700 block of Fort Stockton Drive, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials.
When crews arrived at the scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames and the roof and ceiling of the home had caved in. Fire officials said the fire had likely been burning for some time. It took 35 firefighters just under an hour to fully knock down the fire from the outside. They were able to keep the flames from spreading to homes next door.
Crews were not able to initially enter the home due to likely structural problems caused by the fire, as well as what was described as semi-hoarding conditions inside.
