A Shattered Sunday and Seeking Answers

Sunday evenings are supposed to be that peaceful night of the week.

A quiet time for rest, relaxation and reflection before a new week of work or school gets underway.

So when a shooter opened fire at a pool party Sunday evening, it shattered lives and those who live at that apartment complex.

But it also shook our community.  As most of us in San Diego were wrapping up our weekend, chatting with family or friends and maybe even getting that sometimes melancholy feeling you can get on Sunday evenings as you re-set your priorities for the week ahead…gunshots ring out.

And we are reminded once again of the world in which we live, Sudden and unexplained acts of violence carried out by people who are sick, twisted or evil.

When something like this happens, at a pool party at a quiet apartment complex near La Jolla on a beautiful San Diego weather Sunday, it may make you think, is anywhere safe?

That’s how a violent act like this one not only leaves victims who have died or have been wounded and their families in shock and hurting, it also can shake up a community.  It can shake all of us up a little. At least for a while.

But we tend to shake it off at some point and move on.  But this tragedy may also prompt us to want to do more as a community.  To try to find answers that can help at least reduce the chances of something like this happening,

Until then, we pray for the victims and their families. And we pray that there is an answer.
