Hundreds Of Jobs Saved With SDUSD Vote

Some teachers breathed a sigh of relief after the San Diego Unified School Board voted to take back their pink slips.  485 out of the 1,400 teachers facing layoffs are safe and will keep their jobs, they found out Thursday.

However, the jobs of 473 teachers, plus hundreds of school employees like janitors and food workers, are still in jeopardy.  The board handed out 1,400 pink slips early this year.  Of those, 528 are taking an early retirement.

The district is dealing with a $124 million budget shortfall.  The negotiating will continue, and more changes could be made before the budget is approved at the end of June.
