History is filled with people in very high places who take very mighty falls. And this year has been no different so far.
They come from all fields. From politics. from business, from the military. from sports, from the church and from many more fields.
There are rank and file, regular folks, who lose their jobs all the time but when a more famous person falls, such as when a big tech company CEO gets canned or the head of a media conglomerate is ousted or a Navy admiral is sent to prison, and many others like them fall, it’s a huge fall.
Some of them we see coming. Others we don’t.
Sometimes the ones who fall see it coming. Many times they don’t, that is until it’s almost about to happen.
Sometimes it’s easy to see the reasons for their fall. But sometimes it’s not.
It’s easy to explain when the one who falls commits a crime or some other obvious act of wrongdoing.
But sometimes it’s harder to explain especially when someone who falls has a good reputation and is admired.
We ask questions such as how could that person do that or what could have led to that happening?
In other words, when it’s not so obvious, we try to determine what went before the fall.
There are Proverbs in the Bible that tell us pride goes before a fall.
Of course it’s human nature to make mistakes. We all do. And when those in powerful positions make sometimes big mistakes, it can humble them and be a reminder about humility for the rest of us.
