San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate is inviting proud San Diegans to join him and others on Sunday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Mount Abernathy Avenue & Castleton Drive in Clairemont as Mark Hamill Drive is unveiled with actor Mark Hamill, his family, friends, and fans.

Mark Hamill himself will be at the unveiling of Mark Hamill Drive and anyone can attend. The unveiling of Mark Hamill Drive is FREE and open to the public. No RSVP needed.  Note: Please be advised, for the unveiling: The 5900 block of Castleston Drive (beginning at Mount Abernathy Avenue) will be CLOSED.

The San Diego City Council in June voted to add "Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill's name to the Clairemont street. Hamill lived on the street during part of his childhood, before moving to Virginia and later Japan.

As part of the City's honorary street name policy, Hamill will be recognized in the 5900 block of Castleton Drive, between Mount Abernathy Avenue and Clayford Street, as Mark Hamill Drive. The official street name will not be changed.

"I am pleased that my council colleagues supported dedicating, with honors, Castleton Drive (between Mount Abernathy Avenue and Clayford Street) as 'Mark Hamill Drive.' The council action allows the City of San Diego Streets Division to begin designing and creating the Honorary Mark Hamill Drive signs. We are hopeful we can continue to work with Mr. Hamill, to install, dedicate, and unveil Mark Hamill Drive at a later date at the corner of Castleton Drive and Mount Abernathy Avenue," Councilmember Cate said in a statement following the council vote in June.
