Police say an intruder sexually assaulted a woman Thursday morning in a Little Italy apartment. He's still on the loose, after being chased from the apartment, escaping a police search. The assault was reported about 1:45a.m. in the 400 block of India Street, San Diego police officer Tony Martinez said. The attacker reportedly got into the apartment through an open window.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic or Middle Eastern man in his late 20's with a full beard and wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. A woman told officers she was awaken by the attack before someone else inside the apartment chased the intruder away, Martinez said.
It was the woman's boyfriend, asleep in the same bed, who chased the attacker. The suspect fled out of a gate in the complex, and officers searching the area with the help of a police helicopter were unable to find him. Detectives are still investigating, and anyone with information should call police.
