Escondido Country Club Fire

Escondido Country Club fire 11-22-2017 10News

A two-alarm fire Wednesday morning at the old Escondido Country Club sent black smoke into the early morning sky.  The fire was reported at about 5:30 a.m. at the building in the 1800 block of West Country Club Lane, near Golden Circle Drive.

Reports say a fire broke out in a large clubhouse on the grounds and part of the building collapsed. Fire officials said firefighters were going to let the fire in the building burn out.  Officials said the fire was not a threat to any other buildings.

The Escondido Country Club has been closed since 2013, but some people who live nearby told reporting partner 10News that they have seen people walking around the building at times. Last week, the Escondido City Council voted 3-2 to approve plans to build 380 homes on the fairways, greens and tees of the 109 acre golf course property.
