Dr. Adela de la Torre is the first woman to be named full-time President at San Diego State, coming to the University from U.C. Davis, where she served as Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Diversity.
She is now the third person at SDSU to take over the fight for Mission Valley, after Elloit Hirshman stepped down in March, and Sally Roush was appointed Interim President in May. The University is looking at a three billion dollar development of the land around SDCCU Stadium, if their supporters win a November ballot measure asking the City of San Diego to sell the Mission Valley site to the University.
President de la Torre will also have to take a look at the future of the Aztec mascot, after several student, University and community groups called for changes.
