A collision at a Clairemont Mesa intersection killed a 91-year-old female driver Friday morning.
The woman was headed south on Mt. Alifan Drive when her Toyota Camry was hit by an eastbound car at Balboa Avenue about 11:15 a.m., according to San Diego Police. The impact sent the Camry onto the roadside on the southwest corner of the street crossing, where it plowed into a light pole. The driver, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
The other driver, a 32-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries, including bruises and scratches. It was unclear which driver had the right of way at the time of the accident, which left Balboa Avenue closed between Cannington Drive and Genesee Avenue into the early afternoon.
