A woman was killed early Friday morning on the I-5 in Solana Beach after apparently crashing her car and then trying to run away. The initial collision happened just before 4:15a.m. on the northbound side of I-5 near Lomas Santa Fe Drive, California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr said.
The driver of one of the vehicles involved in that crash then tried to run from the crash, running into the southbound lanes. "It sounds like from the northbound side, someone got out, ran to the southbound side and got hit,'' Doerr said. "The southbound side is where the fatal crash is."
The two right-hand lanes of southbound I-5 were closed in the area, while the two left-hand lanes remained open. On the northbound side, the Lomas Santa Fe Drive on-ramp to the freeway was closed. It caused heavy traffic early and for the morning commute. The investigating into the crash continues.
