Free Heart Screenings For Youth Sunday March 25th

There is an event this weekend where you can get your child's heart tested for free.

The goal is to prevent a condition that leads to the heart stopping unexpectedly, leading to the deaths of thousand of young people.

The parents of Eric Paredes started the foundation in his name because heart screenings are not part of regular exams or sports physicals.

Eric was a healthy teen on the wrestling team and died suddenly at the age of 15.

The screenings are Sunday at Torrey Pines High between 9 am and 3 pm.

Thousands of youth die annually when their heart unexpectedly stops due to an undetected condition that causes Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), a leading cause of death under 25 and the #1 killer of student athletes.

The Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation has tried to combat this tragic loss of young lives by screening 26,000 teens and counting, finding nearly 1 in 300 at risk from an undetected heart abnormality. Volunteers will screen 1,000 teens on Sunday.

WHO: Youth getting screened through ECGs and echocardiograms, plus CPR/AED training. Founders Rhina Peredes Greeson and Hector Paredes will be available for interviews. Parents of teens found at risk and teens found with a heart condition will be available for interviews.

WHY: The Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation provides free heart screenings because they are not part of regular well-child exams or pre-participation sports physicals, even though many heart conditions often have no symptoms or unrecognized warning signs. We find 1-2% at risk at every screening, so each is literally a life-saving event.

WHEN: Sunday, March 25, 2018, 9 am to 3 pm

WHERE: Torrey Pines High School, 3710 Del Mar Heights Rd, San Diego, CA 92130
