San Diego has been selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the FAA as one of ten test sites for a nationwide drone integration program.
The cities of San Diego and Chula Vista will be partnering with several local groups, including Qualcomm, AT&T, Uber, Intel and UCSD.
The test program will support law enforcement and fire crews, create cell phone coverage during natural disasters, deliver blood samples and medical supplies, and even deliver food.
And the drone program comes a year after San Diego was selected as one of ten test markets for self-driving cars.
San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer spoke to KOGO News as the program was announced.
