San Diego Father Pushes for Release of Son's Killer

Twenty-three years ago after the murder of his 20-year-old son Tariq in 1995 by a 14-year-old boy named Tony Hicks, Azim Khamisa saw the need to address the epidemic of youth violence.  So, he reached out to Tony’s grandfather, Ples Felix, in a spirit of forgiveness. Together, they founded the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF).

Just weeks before the first parole hearing for Tony Hicks, the Tariq Khamisa Foundation will host its annual fundraising dinner gala. But this fundraiser will support Tony Hicks’ release – into society and into a job with the Foundation.  Hicks’ parole hearing is scheduled on November 28, 2018.

The TKF Gala, “The Power of Forgiveness,” celebrates its 23 years as an organization and rallies support for Hicks’ release at the Jacobs Center on Saturday, September 15, from 5 to 8 p.m.
