Police Arrest Hit and Run Driver Who Injured a 9-Year-Old in El Cajon

A 25-year-old Lakeside woman is behind bars on suspicion of hitting a 9-year-old boy with her car and then driving away. It happened around 7:30a.m. Thursday when El Cajon Police officers responded to West Main Street and Sunshine Avenue to find the child lying in the roadway unconscious.

The boy was taken to the hospital with significant head trauma, and is in serious condition. According to witness accounts, the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Courtney Webber, apparently ran a red light and drove directly into the path of the child as he pedaled his bike, Lt. Stephen Kirk said.

Investigators located Webber's blue Honda Fit on Thursday evening at her Lakeside residence and took her into custody after finding her hiding under a bed in one of the bedrooms, Kirk said. Webber was booked into the Las Colinas Detention Center on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and was being held on $50,000 bail.
