Be A Part Of The Annual Race For The Cure In San Diego

This Sunday morning is the annual Race for the Cure against breast cancer in Balboa park.

This year, it's a family friendly event and even your dog is invited.

The Race For The Cure is the largest fundraiser for Komen San Diego.

The president of Susan G. Komen San Diego is Shaina Gross, who says six women a day in San Diego are diagnosed with breast cancer and one woman a day passes away in San Diego from the disease.

African American women have a 41  percent mortality rate from breast cancer, as compared with Caucasians.

Gross says that rate is due to African American women being screened and diagnosed later, and that's why they  go into communities and offer free mammograms and services.

They also provide follow up services, including MRI's, Ultrasounds and biopsies.

They also pay the rent or mortgage for a woman going through treatment.

The 5K or 1 mile race begins at 8 Sunday morning at Balboa Park at 6th avenue and Palm.
