Lime Recalls Some Scooters After Fire Fears

An electric scooter company is recalling some scooters over fears that they could explode. Lime, a company that has placed hundreds, if not thousands of the scooters on San Diego streets, says it learned of two potential issues in August.

The company says a manufacturing defect in some of the older "Ninebot" model scooters could lead the batteries to smolder or catch fire. In addition, there have been reports that some baseboards of the scooters break under repeated pressure. Lime says about 2,000 scooters were pulled off the streets, mainly in San Diego, Los Angeles and the Lake Tahoe area. It says all vulnerable scooters were removed from circulation and at no time were riders at risk.
