A top researcher in the field of Alzheimer's says this is an exiting time because of the advances being made in diagnosing the disease and he has the latest on prevention.
Dr. Howard Fillit is the Founding Executive Director and Chief Science Officer of the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation.
He tells KOGO News due to a lack of technology, doctors get the diagnosis wrong for Alzheimer's' 50 percent of the time.
But if they use a brain imaging pet scan, they diagnose it with 95 percent accuracy.
He says now they want to take that technology and turn into a much less expensive blood test.
He says a person starts developing Alzheimer's in mid life, in the 30's to 50's, and the best way to try to prevent it is walking and the Mediterranean diet.
