Police are searching for the person who stabbed a woman to death in a possible home invasion in Carlsbad Monday morning.
The incident was reported at around 12:30 a.m. at a home on Outrigger Lane, just north of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, according to Carlsbad police.
Police did not immediately release details on what led to the attack, but officers told 10News the victim was able to call 911 to report the incident.
When officers arrived, the woman -- who suffered multiple stab wounds -- was conscious and breathing. She was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries at Scripps La Jolla Hospital.
10News learned officers found bloody footprints that led to the backyard of the home. Police have requested additional resources to assist in the search for the person responsible for the attack, which is being investigated as a possible home invasion.
A possible suspect has not been identified.
