Major Fire in Kearny Mesa Forces Evacuation of Animal Hospital

A major fire destroyed a Kearny Mesa off road vehicle business which led to the evacuation of a nearby animal hospital.

The fire was first reported at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the Off Road Warehouse (7915 Balboa Ave.), according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials. Witnesses at a nearby restaurant called 911 after seeing flames and heavy smoke coming from the back of the ORW building.

Multiple crews arrived to battle the fire, and some firefighters worked to remove numerous cats and dogs as flames threatened the Balboa Veterinary Hospital next door. It took firefighters at least three hours to fully douse the flames. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. San Diego fire officials say the same warehouse caught fire in November 2018.
