Things Could Be Changing for Airline Passengers

An interview the CEO of United Airlines did with ABC News is probably being read or watched by airline passengers on flights everywhere today.

And it should be. In a surprisingly candid and revealing interview on ABC, United CEO Oscar Munoz says flying has become too stressful for passengers, saying that by the time they get on board they are ticked off at the world.

In the interview, he says his airline has empathy with passengers and is working to improve their experience. The United CEO specifically mentions the shrinking size of airline seats.Munoz saying, “We’re nearing a point...that we can’t do that anymore.”

So as you’re wiggling into your seat on your next flight, think about that.

And you may also want to think about another report this week in the The Sun about talk among some airlines now to weigh passengers before they board so airlines can save fuel. Right now, they estimate total passenger weight based on gender and age of those on board.

The report says a British-based firm is talking to several trans-Atlantic airlines about a system that would use discreet pressure pads or scanners that would calculate your weight to help the airlines know exactly how much fuel they need to use and not waste some and not waste money, because the price of airline fuel drives up their costs.

Some things to think about as you get ready to book that next flight.
