Cell phones have become part of our daily lives, but there are some annoying things about cell phones.
None of them may be more annoying than robocalls.
We all get them. Even some robo-blocking apps don’t block every robo call. From pitches for free vacations and offers to buy things you don’t want or don’t need….to the robocalls from phony scammers and phony IRS agents.
According to a call-blocking company, there were nearly 5-billion robocalls made in the U.S. last year.Calculating that out means that every American gets more than 35-hundred robocalls a year.
A lot of people are hoping that this week’s decision by the Federal Communications Company, those numbers will drop and we will all get some robocall relief.
The FCC approved a ruling that not only allows but also encourages phone companies to block robocalls by default, automatically. The chairman of the FCC saying "We think these actions will help consumers in the near term and the long term to get the peace and the quiet that they deserve.”Amen to that.
Despite the FCC ruling, the phone companies are not required to block your robocalls without charging you, but the ruling does say they expect most providers, if not all to do it for free.
Let’s hope so or the phone companies will be getting lots of robocalls themselves from unhappy consumers.
