The Social Media Message in Story About Missing College Student

The dangers of the internet and social media.

We hear stories about it almost every day. And many of them end badly.

The news story about police investigating what missing college student from L-A, 23-year-old Mackenzie Lueck, has possibly been doing on social media, has drawn attention and has raised concern again.

With reports saying there is evidence that she spent time a lot of time communicating on social media websites and apps looking for older men, and Salt Lake City police in Utah where she attends college saying they have searched the home of a man who they describe as a person of interest, there are suspicions that this story may end badly as well.

You’ve probably heard people say it since hearing about this. Why are some people not aware of some of the dangers on the internet and on social media? Why do they reveal so much about themselves when everyone knows there are evil people out there just looking for victims.

From harassment to human trafficking, there are those out there who know how to use social media to contact unsuspecting or naïve people, many of them young people.

And even with today’s youngest generations of kids and teens and those in college having grown up all their lives so far with access to social media and the peer pressure to spend time using it, there are many of them who don’t heed the warnings or who don’t care, giving the evil forces out there the opportunities they’re looking for.

Parents, teachers and friends need to be aware of what’s going on and be watching out for those who may not be.
