It's another warning when you're buying or selling something from an online site like Craigslist. A 50-year-old man was carjacked early Wednesday morning after agreeing to meet with a prospected Craigslist buyer.
The man was to meet the buyer along Fenton Parkway around 12:30a.m. Police say when he got there, a man walked up to his driver's side window while another man approached the rear window on the driver's side.
"The second suspect reached in the rear window and stuck what the victim believed to be a gun in his back,'' San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said. "The victim grabbed his dog and ran."
The two bandits then got in the man's car, a gray BMW 328i with tinted windows and Oklahoma license plate HUP049, and drove off, followed by a second vehicle. No detailed suspect descriptions were immediately available.
Anyone with information regarding the theft or the location of the car was asked to call SDPD's robbery division at 619-531-2299 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
Police are continuing to remind people to be safe when they are buying or selling items online, and meeting strangers in person. San Diego does have a safe trade location at the Rancho Peñasquitos Police Department, where there are well-lit, marked parking spaces monitored by surveillance cameras 24 hours a day, and are in clear view of the front doors of the Northeastern Division station.
