Could the end of those annoying, irritating and upsetting robocalls be near?
As we’ve been reporting, Thursday’s announcement that every state in the U.S along with Washington, D.C. have all worked out a deal with a dozen of the biggest phone companies to fight robocalls is a big deal.
According to the big announcement, the phone companies agree to do at least four big things.
- Give all U.S. mobile phone customers call-blocking technology at no charge.
- ·Create a new system that labels incoming calls for consumers as real or suspected spam.
- Investigate and trace calls that are made illegally.
- And cooperate with law enforcement
While these steps are big ones, the problem of robocalls is a huge one
In a typical month, Americans together get close to 5-billion spam and robocalls. That amounts to more than one per day for every phone number in the United States.
So making all robocalls go away is going to be a big task.As long as there are scammers out there and robocalling companies who have no boundaries as to what they will do to get business, some will find a way.
For now, more people are just doing what more people are doing. If you get a call from a number you don’t know or if it just says private, you don’t answer it. If spammers and robocallers never get any answers, maybe they’ll finally get the message.
