Listen to KOGO for Thursday's Great California ShakeOut Drill

KOGO will be participating in the world's largest earthquake drill at 10:17 a.m. Thursday when millions of Californians will "Drop, Cover and Hold on".

It's The Great California Shake Out when schools, businesses and individuals are encouraged to make a plan and prepare for an earthquake.

In some cities first responders will hold drills and full scale exercises.

Listen to AM600 at 10:17 a.m. when we will interrupt programming and play the drill message.

The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services says the earthquake early warning alerts will publicly be available statewide starting Thursday. The warnings produced by the ShakeAlert system will be pushed through a smartphone app called, MYSHAKE and the same wireless notification system that issues Amber Alerts.

The system's stateside debut coincides with the Great California Shake Out and the 30th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake that ravaged the San Francisco Bay area.
