Traffic to be Impacted This Weekend by Friars Rd 163 Interchange Work

Traffic in parts of Mission Valley is expected to be affected this weekend as a stretch of Friars Road is being closed as part of an ongoing project.

Caltrans officials are warning the public that both directions of Friars Road, between Ulric Street and Frazee Road, will be shut down for 36 hours -- from Saturday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m., to 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.

The closure also is expected to affect bicyclists and pedestrians in the immediate area. The pavement work this weekend is part of the State Route 163/Friars Road Interchange Project, which is funded by the City of San Diego.

According to Caltrans, the closure will include:

-- Eastbound Friars Rd. to northbound SR-163 on-ramp

-- Northbound SR-163 to Friars Rd. off-ramp

-- Southbound SR-163 to westbound Friars Rd. off-ramp will be OPEN, but the eastbound ramp will be CLOSED.
