San Diego Gas & Electric has given notice to some customers in high wildfire risk areas in San Diego County of possible power shut-offs this week.
In a statement on their website, SDG&E says they may have to cut power to as many as 24,000 customers over the next 48 hours.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag fire weather warning in the inland valleys and mountain areas of the county for the period between 5 a.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday due to expected warm temperatures. low humidity and gusty Santa Ana winds.
Schools in the Julian Union School District and Julian Union High School District are closed Wednesday due to power outages that may be initiated amid current fire weather conditions. The San Diego County Office of Education said of the closure of schools in the two districts: “The safety and security of students, faculty, and staff is of the utmost importance to schools across the county.”
There is no word on if classes will resume Thursday. Office of Education officials urged families to follow the @SanDiegoCOE Twitter accountf for any updates.
A brush fire that erupted on Camp Pendleton Tuesday afternoon grew in size Tuesday night. Base officials said the so-called Oak Fire has burned 140 acres and was 35% contained as of 6 a.m. Wednesday. The brush fire started in the vicinity of the base’s Range 409 at an unspecified time, according to base officials.
Cal Fire and local fire departments urging you to avoid any activity outdoors that could start a fire and if you see smoke, to call 911.
