How to Manage Your Traffic Stress

A new survey confirms what you probably already know, especially if you’re in your car driving to work right now.

Traffic stresses us out. But how bad is it?

A new survey of 2,000 Americans who regularly drive to work via found that at least one third of the respondents say they usually feel agitated or stressed before even arriving at their jobs.

The survey found that it’s common for commuters to spend at least an hour or more getting to and from the office. The average commuter spends more than five full days, driving back and forth to work during a calendar year. Think of it. One week out of the office getting to and from the office.

And of course, the findings of this survey are an average across the country. Here in Southern California, we know the traffic is about the worst there is, especially in the L-A area. So commuters here may be even more stressed out about traffic.

And the survey found that about 25 percent of the commuters surveyed said their employers are not sympathetic to traffic being a reason for being late, even by just a few minutes. And that, then, even adds to their stress.

So when it comes to managing to deal with traffic, it comes down to managing our stress.
