A 40-year-old man was arrested after El Cajon police said he tried to kidnap a young child from her mother outside a busy shopping mall.
The incident was reported shortly before 3:20 p.m. Sunday at 415 Fletcher Parkway, outside of Parkway Plaza Mall, according to El Cajon police.
Police, citing witnesses, said a man believed to be a transient attempted to grab a 1-year-old girl while she was with her mother and tried to run.
The man fled the area without the girl, but witnesses were able to give his description to police.
Police spotted a man matching the description nearby and he was arrested in the attempted kidnapping.
El Cajon police said: “This is believed to be an isolated incident and there are no further pending investigations at this time.”
