Governor Says More Than Half of California Residents Could Get Coronavirus

Governor Newsom wants the San Diego based hospital ship Mercy to be deployed to the port of Los Angeles because he fears more than half of California’s population could get the coronavirus.

In a letter to the president, Newsom says that the state projects that roughly 56% of California’s population will be infected with the virus over an eight-week period.

The governor saying in his letter that California has been disproportionately impacted by repatriation efforts and that in some parts of the state the case rate is doubling every four days.

Newsom says locating the hospital ship Mercy at the port of L-A will help decompress the state’s health care system.
