Third Coronavirus Death in San Diego County

San Diego County health officials on Thursday announced the third death in the county from the COVID-19 virus.

At an afternoon news conference, the county's Health and Human Services agency said an 87-year-old woman had died from the coronavirus. The two other residents of San Diego County who died earlier were both men in their 70's.

The latest Daily Coronavirus Report from the county released late Thursday afternoon showed the total number of confirmed cases among residents of the county has risen to 341. That's an increase of 64 cases from the day before. The total number of local cases has doubled since Sunday.

Dr. Nick Yphantides said, "It is clear in the context of what is going on that we now have substantial transmission of the virus occurring in our county."
