No New Deaths in County; 550 Sailors on San Diego Based Ship Test Positive

A smaller one day increase in the number of coronavirus cases was reported in the county Sunday.

San Diego County health officials on Sunday reported an increase of 43 new cases of coronavirus in the county and no new deaths.

The total number of known confirmed cases of coronavirus in the county is 1,804. The county says 415 or 23 percent of the people who have contracted the virus have required hospitalization with 152 or about 8 percent needing to be in intensive care units.

County Launches Awareness Campaign

The County over the weekend also launched a new awareness campaign that is encourages San Diego County residents to stay at home, maintain social distancing and wear facial coverings.

Residents are invited to submit a picture of themselves on the County's Coronavirus website in which they hold a sign that shows who they are staying home for. Submissions could be featured as one of the faces of our community in the campaign as we work together to flatten the curve and slow the spread of the coronavirus. Those submitting a photo are encouraged to share it on their social media pages with the hashtags #StayHomeSD and #InThisTogetherSD.

Number of Coronavirus Cases on San Diego-based Aircraft Carrier Grows

The U.S. Navy this weekend announced at least 103 new cases of coronavirus onboard the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, bringing the number of positive cases on the ship to 550.

"As of today, 92% of the USS Theodore Roosevelt crew members have been tested for COVID-19, with 550 positive and 3,673 negative results," Navy officials said Saturday. In response, 3,696 sailors have moved ashore, which includes 518 who were taken off the ship since Friday.
