San Diego City gyms, places of worship, salons and barber shops will be allowed to operate outdoors as a result of the executive order issued by Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Monday.
“Right now, we need to give our small businesses every tool possible to get through this difficult time or they might shut down for good, Faulconer said. By allowing more and more businesses to operate outdoors, we are delivering solutions to help San Diego’s small businesses get to the other side of this pandemic while putting thousands of San Diegans back to work safely and responsibly with proper physical distancing.”
The San Diego City Council will vote on the order at a later date, but it will take effect immediately. The mayor also noted that California State regulations will need to be modified to allow for the outdoor operation of these businesses.
On July 13, California Governor Newsom issued statewide restrictions on indoor operations as coronavirus cases reached alarming numbers and San Diego was placed on the state's Watch List.
