San Diego County is bracing for what the National Weather Service is calling "Blistering temps" over the next few days, adding that "Some record temps could be challenged or broken."
Temperatures on Thursday will be in the 90s for much of the county, but the hottest day is expected to be Friday, July 31 when east county temperatures will easily exceed 100 degrees, Borrego Springs could reach 117 degrees and Ocotillo Wells could reach 120 degrees.
The National Weather Service is estimating that temperatures away from the coast will be 8-15 degrees above average. The following advisories have been issued and are in effect from Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 am to Saturday, August 1 at 9:00 pm:
HEAT ADVISORY - All valleys and mountain areas below 5,000 feet
HEAT WARNING - All deserts
REMINDER:
- Make sure you stay hydrated
- Take lots of breaks if you must be outside
- NEVER leave a loved one or pet inside a vehicle
Coastal areas are not expected to suffer the high temperatures in part because of an upwelling of cold water currently near the coast.
